Suunto UI Next was designed for use on the screens of Suunto's sports watches. Readability in small sizes and recognisability, and a subtly mechanical style were a few of the main goals.

Multiple design decisions were made to meet the brief goals. The round shapes are drawn slightly rectangular, the terminals and connection points are shaped to give a mechanical and precise impression, the caps are drawn noticeably narrower than the lowercase to make text set in all caps fit the small space of the watch screen.

In addition to the text styles a set of display figures were drawn. These are drawn so that the bold, light and all intermediate weights take exactly the same amount of horizontal space. This makes it possible to change the weight of the figures without affecting the layout.

In addition to full Latin language support the typeface has cyrillic and greek character sets.
